When we set out to design a universal interchangeable soft-release button, the challenge was how to take into consideration all the different shapes and types of shutter releases. As far as shapes goes, we designed a flat and a concave mount to accommodate most of all the possible shapes out there. The difficulty lies in how different shutter releases are made. Some are rotationally fixed, and thus tightening the Lolumina buttons are a non-issue. But some are free to rotate within the camera, which makes tightening the Lolumina buttons a challenge.

If you have a camera with a shutter release that freely rotates then the tips below will help you out.
1. Attach the stainless-steel mount to your camera like normal.
2. Attempt to screw the Lolumina button as much as you can onto the mount.
3. Find a flat, blunt object. Our best recommendation is a butter knife or similar. Please don’t use a sharp object, because we would hate for you to hurt yourself.
4. Press against the rubber O-ring on the mount with the butter knife, doing so will prevent it from rotating.
5. While still pressing with the butter-knife, tighten the Lolumina button accordingly so it is nice and secure.

If you have either type of shutter release, rotating or fixed, please tighten the button periodically to make sure it won’t get lost. Because friction, rubbing, and general usage could cause the button to loosen over time.

Here come the buttons!

What we have been up to

Few of you may know that Lolumina was started out as a side project by a sole enthusiast with the goal of sharing this solution with other fellow photography enthusiasts. As the popularity and demand for the product grew, the ability to keep up with all the orders and customer support became strained. Realizing that something major had to be done, the company needed to take a step backward in order to take a leap forward. The leap was to bring in a team that will ensure the level of product availability and support will match and exceed what our customers expects of us.

Product availability update

Most, if not all, of our products will be available for order this Monday, November 16th PST. This includes the Mini, Regular, and Knurled Concave complete-kits and button-only models.

Hello KN-CCV

What is the KN-CCV?

We are proud to introduce you to the newest member of the Lolumina soft-release button family, the KN-CCV. What sets it apart from the other buttons in the range is the concave surface, for users who prefer that shape for its inviting feel. With a diameter of 13mm, the KN-CCV presents itself as welcoming target for your finger when capturing the moment. Large side surfaces are knurled with a straight pattern to provide better grip when securing the button and to match the machined aesthetics of certain cameras.

Introducing the New Mini Mk.II https://lolumina.com/2015/03/introducing-the-mini-mk-ii/ https://lolumina.com/2015/03/introducing-the-mini-mk-ii/#comments Wed, 11 Mar 2015 18:18:21 +0000 http://lolumina.com/?p=2280 Hello Mini Mk.II

Hello Mini Mk.II

What’s new?

When designing the new Mini Mk.II we wanted to address some of the concerns of users. First off, we wanted to redesign the bottom opening where the button, mount, and O-ring meet. So we created a new inset that allows for more surface area friction, which provides for a more secure attachment for the button to the mount.

Another aspect we wanted to address is lowering the edge overhang height of the buttons. This helps create a lower profile for the edge, for a more streamlined experience. Also as a consequence, the thicker edge provides for better grip when tightening the button.

We hope that this new Mini Mk.II model will help make installing and using a Lolumina soft-release button a more pleasurable experience.

Where are the Buttons? https://lolumina.com/2015/03/where-are-the-buttons/ https://lolumina.com/2015/03/where-are-the-buttons/#comments Wed, 11 Mar 2015 18:08:38 +0000 http://lolumina.com/?p=2272 Where's the buttons?

Where’s the buttons?

What’s going on?

The number one question on everyone’s mind is where are the buttons? First of all we would like to apologize for the delay in getting products in stock for our customers. We know we have been sold-out of our Mini line of products for a while now. One of the reasons for the delay was a question of how can we make another version of the Mini that was better. So we went back to drawing board and came up with the next generation of Mini, the Mk.II. It took a little bit longer than we wanted, but we are very pleased with the outcome and hope you will too.

Another question that we get is request for a concave version of the button. So we are releasing a new soft-release button that works with all of our mounting bases, the knurled-edge concave button, or KN-CCV for short. There will be more detailed posts about each of these new buttons and their features following this one.

Lastly we are still working on getting the burnt orange color that so many of you have been asking for to match a certain camera accent color. Those will be announced when available, as we don’t have a firm arrival date.

Who Wants Cheaper Shipping? https://lolumina.com/2014/07/who-wants-cheaper-shipping/ https://lolumina.com/2014/07/who-wants-cheaper-shipping/#comments Fri, 25 Jul 2014 19:48:01 +0000 http://lolumina.com/?p=1369 Ready to go

Ready to go

We understand that shipping costs is one of the main sticking points to online shopping. That’s why today we would like to introduce you to our new shipping rates. We have recently installed a new shipping calculation module that will allow us to discount the shipping costs based on the number of items you order. This doesn’t make that much of difference to our USA customers since shipping is inexpensive, although as you can see from the chart below it’s very easy to get free shipping now. The main reason we wanted to implement this is for our international customers, as a proportion to the cost of the product, shipping is relatively expensive. But now as you add items to your order, the shipping gets more cost effective. This is especially helpful for those in camera clubs and forums who are pooling orders together to reduce the cost of shipping.

We don’t mind paying a portion, or all of your shipping, even if it means we are making less money. So while other companies increase shipping costs when you purchase more items, we are doing the opposite. Because ultimately our goal at Lolumina is getting our customers the products they need at a cost that makes sense.

How much is shipping?

Dear customers,

Because USPS increased the postage on January 21, 2018, we have to raise some shipping rates. The new shipping rates is as follows:

Love of Photography + Lolumina = Earnings

We would like to announce the launch of the Lo-Link Affiliate Program. What our program enables you to do is to earn commissions based on the traffic that you send our way. We have various levels of participation. So, if you have a few friends that you want to share Lolumina with, or you have a blog with a solid readership base, we got you covered. You can either simply share your unique link on social media, or place banners on your site. It’s easy to join and we have an account dashboard to monitor all of your traffic and activity.

For all the blogs and social influencers out there, we thought of you when designing the Lo-Link Affiliate Program. We understand that it takes a commitment to create content and manage a site or social accounts. So for those of you who pour your time and energy into creating and sharing content for others we want to reward you. We do so by offering a really generous commission of 20% of each sale, along with 5% of the sales of other Lo-Link Program members who joined because of you though tier-commissions. What that means is, let’s say someone clicks on your link and then becomes a Lo-Link Program member, when they generate sales, you will earn a percentage of those sales. Keep in mind that their commissions is not reduced in anyway, the only party who earns less is us.

Unlike other affiliate programs, we also have a large window of opportunity for you to earn. You will be entitled to commissions on sales from the traffic you bring for a period of 90-days. What this means is that individuals who click on your link do not need to purchase anything immediately, but when they do, you will credited with the sale, or any other sales within the 90-day window.

We are very excited to open the Lo-Link Affiliate Program to the public and are looking forward to building relationships with our members. Learn more >

You Spoke and we Listened https://lolumina.com/2014/06/you-spoke-and-we-listened/ https://lolumina.com/2014/06/you-spoke-and-we-listened/#comments Sat, 28 Jun 2014 22:44:03 +0000 http://lolumina.com/?p=1130 Here comes the Mini's

Here comes the Mini’s

It is with great pleasure to announce the release of the Lolumina Mini. It has been a long time coming to finally get this product in stock and ready to ship for our customers. The design features a 10mm diameter button that is more appropriate for the smaller cameras in the marketplace or for those that have a preference for a more compact footprint. The Lolumina Mini design is available in two new colors, Lucky Green and Classy Gold, along with the staple selections of Bullseye Red, Stealth Black, and Sleek Silver.

You spoke and we listened. Numerous individuals have voiced feedback concerning the size of the original Lolumina soft-release button. Many mentioned that it was slightly too large, and would be ideal if it was just a little bit smaller. So with today’s introduction of the Lolumina Mini, we are also releasing the Lolumina Mk.II. Designed with a diameter of 13.5mm, it is 10% smaller than the original button and a better fit for most cameras. Similar to the Lolumina Mini, the Mk.II will be offered in two new colors, Lucky Green and Classy Gold on top of the regular colors.

Our goal is to make sure that our customers have the best solution to their photographic needs, so when feedback is given, it enables us the opportunity to make things better. Since we want to make sure that the best solution is in the hands of our customers, and to take care of our early adopters and supporters, we are offering a 30% discount toward the purchase of the Lolumina Mini or the Mk.II soft-release button. All previous owners of the original Lolumina use the coupon code EARLYADOPTER30 from now and through the month of July to take advantage of the release of the Lolumina Mk.II and the Mini. Please note the coupon code will only function when used in conjunction with the email address used when first ordering.

To Mount or Not to Mount? https://lolumina.com/2014/05/to-mount-or-not-to-mount/ https://lolumina.com/2014/05/to-mount-or-not-to-mount/#respond Mon, 19 May 2014 19:24:10 +0000 http://lolumina.com/?p=765 To mount or not to mount?

To mount or not to mount?

We understand that sometimes things we envision don’t meet our needs. That’s why we have a devised a way to safely remove the Lolumina soft-release button without damaging your camera. This also helps remove the decision whether or not to attach the mount in the first place. Because we know the idea of permanently attaching something to your camera is a lot like getting a tattoo. What if I don’t like the the way it looks? What if I want to sell my camera down the road? Plus many more other reasons to stop you from trying out a soft-release. But now with the ability to safely remove the mounting base plus our 60-day return policy, you are free to try out something different.

We originally decided on the adhesive based on the premise that our users would want something that would not come off and get lost. But the sound of something that strong is a little imposing, especially for something that you need to attach on your camera and use to see if it works out. The good thing about the adhesive on the Lolumina soft-release is that the holding ability is strong along certain lines of force and weak on others. The type of force that holds strong is the one the button will encounter during usage. Should you decide that it isn’t for you, the adhesive does not resist against peeling or leaves a residue. But to peel it requires specific instructions, and is available here.
