The Beginning of the End of Naked Shutter-Release Buttons

From start to finish.

From start to finish.

Welcome to the launch and new home of Lolumina. We are very excited to be able to offer you the ability to utilize an interchangeable soft-release button on your camera. It’s been a long journey to finally get this product to market and we are really looking forward to getting feedback on what your experiences are with it. Because the benefits of improved camera handling and tactility from the addition of something so small is what we want to share with everyone.

With all the recent introductions of retro inspired cameras in the marketplace, the addition of the threaded shutter-release added an element of tactility to capturing the moment for photographers. Although it has been a mainstay on Leica cameras, along with others in the past, the nature of something analog and technique-based, not a new fancy image stabilization system or the like, was interesting and a breath of fresh air. The only drawback was that most cameras do not have a threaded shutter-release button. So the challenge for us was how can we make something that is interchangeable and at the same time lasting so it wouldn’t accidentally fall off or get lost.

Initially it started as a personal project for our own use and quickly evolved into something that was so much more. We began by looking for just some off-the-shelf pieces that we could jury-rig into some semblance of the desired functionality. But those solutions left us a little wanting. So we decided to custom design and manufacture it from scratch and share it with the world. We went through quite a lot of design iterations to arrive at the solution we have today. It still amazes us to see some sketches on paper turn into designs on computer screens and then to actual physical products. The next step that we look forward to is getting these products in your hands and seeing what you do with it.

  3. Have you guys tested this with a Fuji X-T1?

I want to order one but I’m afraid the button might be too large so it covers the movie recording button or touches other dials.

    • It doesn’t entirely block any functions or dials. If it appears to large, then wait till next week, we will have new versions.

  4. I love the base idea. It would be nice if you could do the female base that fits any soft-shutter releases.

Your shutter release head is too thin and too large for me. I am using fuji X-A1 and XT. Looking forward to see your new version.

    • Thanks for the positive feedback. Female base idea is a good one, but the height might be an issue. We think you will like what is around the corner.

  5. Can these attach to a Panasonic GH4 or Sony RX100M2?

    • Gan, yes they can be attached to both cameras, although we would be very cautious on the RX100. The one thing to be careful of is snagging the button on the RX100, since it is a pocketable camera with a flat top surface.
